Australian United Timbers
Spring is in the air finally after what was a long, cold and wet winter at Burraga. Good winter rainfall sees farmers and the major water supply dams full as well as grass beginning to take off. This week sees temperatures rising towards the 20’s and peoples dispositions improving with some sunshine.
Sales to date have been better than the same period last year and we are hoping that this continues if we can maintain some fine weather and the “weekend warriors” can attack their yards.
Obviously the present economic climate is not helping our businesses with consumer confidence at the lowest levels seen for some decades and the unknown aspect of a carbon tax hanging over everybody’s head. With our own business we foresee that it will be harder for us to compete against imported timber which comes from countries that will not have a carbon tax.

Footy Tipping Comp
With another year of football tipping behind us we are pleased to announce the winners:-
1st Prize $2148- Petries GBS Mitre 10 Orange
2nd Prize $1074- EJ Shaw Mona Vale
3rd Prize $358- MRK Holdings Ingleburn
We intend to run the competition again next year and hopefully it will be without the complexity of OZTIPS changing their format mid season.
Now for the hard bit, as promised to Kim at the start of the season, if she beat me, Kim is superior in football tipping for the third year in a row. I intend to not make it four in a row and will be coming up with a new plan to beat her next year.
BUNNINGS Vs WOOLWORTHS
The expected market battle between hardware giants Bunnings and Woolworths (to be badged as “Masters”) is slowly taking off with stores being constructed close to capital cities. Where this leads is anybody’s guess but I still believe that there is a place for businesses such as ours who provide service, knowledge and products which the big chains do not.
