Australian United Timbers

New Markets

In October 2009 I travelled to England to attend a landscaping exhibition at Birmingham in an effort to find new and different products not currently available in Australia. I believe the trip was worthwhile as we are now working on a new range of ‘Garden Timber’. We expect to have some samples to most outlets in February/March.

Permalog/Pacpine Venture

Most of you are now aware that our joint venture with Permalog ceased as at the end of last year. Our Burraga operation retained the use of the Australian United Timbers name with the Queensland operation now returning to its previous name of Permalog.

The Market

I read the other day that, growth wise, NSW is the worst performing of all the states. Our experience is that while sales have not increased by dramatic amounts over the past two years they have not subsided at all during the so called Global Financial Crisis. Prices have certainly been under pressure especially from New Zealand products but I expect that the importing will decrease once the US and other markets continue to improve.
It’s also interesting that our sales of rounds continue to improve which is at odds to a few years ago where their sales were on the decline. Hopefully all products will improve their sales going forward.

Congratulations 2009 Footy Tipping Winners

The winners of the 2009 tipping competition were 1st – Kents Building Supplies, 2nd Kim Barlow and Petries Mitre 10, 3rd Marshalls Timbers. We intend to run the competition this year with a slightly different format. Details will follow.
